Earth is the source of everything. All that we eat grows from earth, and we call this 'farming'. We liken the Earth to 'mother' nature, and farming has been a sacred and honorable act long since.

The overall process of leveling the soil, sowing seed, and growing crop is similar to the growth of a young child. Tender sprouts require as much care as infants does; crops and people both need love and attention until they grow up to a certain age, and we use the expression "give away" (in Korean) when we marry our daughters off and also when we harvest the crops. I used the metaphor between farming and rearing of a child as the theme of my project.

In detail, I related the project to my own personal life, focusing on my mother and how she brought me up.

The baby book my mother has kept for 4810 days since my birth is the basic frame of my project. Episodes of my childhood, which I cannot even remember is the subject of my work.

10.22(Mon) While I was unable to unattach her (Jae yeon) every morning when I left for work, she seemed to forget about me whenever her aunt called her for meals. Nowadays, she only drinks 200ml of milk and eats rice meals with snacks in between. She has a good appetite.

Just as my mother fed me 200ml of milk, I water my crops everyday, photographing the whole process. Though watering crops is a simple and ordinary chore, its similarity with feeding a baby reveals equal importance in the sense of taking care of a lifeform.

I had wanted to convey the value of growing crops by using the metaphor of a parent raising a child. I wish that my viewers would also be able to find the love I have tried to capture in my photographs.

I like taking a walk. One day I find new things in the same place. The next day I see what I couldn't see the day before. After seeing that, I can see more and more. So I take pictures of them.

My work is processed by brainstorming. After I shoot one, I imagine the next one and find similar thing, and then take a picture. So it is hard to find similarity in my pictures. They are entangled and the meaning is only in my head.

I think people are too busy so they don't see many things. I am interested in little things that people overlook. I want to find hidden things in daily life.

Accidentally I scanned two films of one plant, making an overlapped image, and that image looked like a portrait of a plant. If I could shoot a plant like a portrait of a person, I thought I could have persuasive power of my work.

First, when I see one plant I want, I take a picture. I observe the plant and I find a face of the plant. Next day, in same time I go and I shoot again with another film. Finally I scan two films together. Thinking a face of a plant and feeling small changes in one day, I make portraits of plants.

At first I find a face of a plant which looks like a face of a person. It was roundy. I wanted to find eyes, nose and mouth in a plant, but as time went by, I just looked at their faces. I saw dead branches from cold air, red leaves and withered flowers. The faces of plants appeared which I did not see at first. They gave the answer to my approach.

Green Time, Artist Statement

This work was conducted at a temple in Jiri Mountain. When I found the temple again, I wondered about the plants I had photographed first and went straight to it. Of course, most of the plants I thought were missing, and the remaining ones were black and dead. I think I can take a picture of nature work at any time, but it is not. In our time and other plant times, they change quickly and disappear.

While working in the temple, I took more time with the plants than usual. One of the most different things I experienced here was 'time', but at first it seemed to be very long and slow at the day off the internet, smart phones and TV. It 's like having some time in the universe and having another time. However, the longer day became more mine, and I could gaze slowly at the plants.

The work process defines a plant and takes approximately one and a half hours to two hours of shooting time. Select the plants on your own and take a total of five times multiple exposures every 20 minutes after the first shot. I watched the plants and shared short moments, waiting for the next shot. As the wind blows, as the sun changes, the plant time can be borrowed as soon as it changes.

If I look at trees or plants for a long time, it looks like I am interviewing. It differs from the conversation of people with language and facial expressions, but as time goes on, I feel like I know the tree. As the sun changed, the light shining on the trees changed, and the appearance of the plants looked different from time to time. It looked different from the first tree I saw.

It was not easy to show this story as one picture. I was doing <0g Drawing> while I was worried about it, and at the moment I scanned the seeds and film together, I thought that this work process would show me what I want to do.

The title was like putting the seeds on the film as if it were drawing, but when weighing the seeds, we got the idea that it was not more than 1g. The process of selecting and scanning films and seeds is intuitive and subjective.

The tree I live, Artist Statement
